“It’s a Mystery”

“Strangely Enough, It All Turns Out Well.” “How?” “I Don’t Know. It’s a Mystery!” – Shakespere in Love

We still aren’t entirely sure how we managed to pull this off, but we have officially set up camp at the incredible Mystery Bay Campsite. Considering we booked this spot at the absolute last minute with zero planning, we were expecting to end up parked next to the public amenities block with a bunch of rowdy campers. Instead, we scored our own completely isolated, pristine slice of paradise looking straight out over the islands and the lighthouse.

For us this experience perfectly mirrors that classic exchange from the film Shakespeare in Love when Philip Henslowe comforts his stressed investor. We have taken a few liberties with the quote which we feel is appropriate.

Philip Henslowe: “Mr. Fennyman, allow me to explain about the [travel] business. The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster.”
Hugh Fennyman: “So what do we do?”
Philip Henslowe: “Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.”
Hugh Fennyman: “How?”
Philip Henslowe: “I don’t know. It’s a mystery.”

This quote has officially become our motto for the entire trip around Australia – and our life.

To celebrate our stroke of absolute luck (and so Jo could get in her 10,000 steps for the day) we walked the few hundred metres to the beach and sent the drone up into the coastal air. Miracle of miracles, the tech gods smiled upon us and the drone worked flawlessly this time! No spectacular user errors or mid-air tantrums to report—just pure, seamless footage of a truly breathtaking sunset painting the sky over the water.

NOTE: For those sceptics out there – No, this footage is not colour corrected. It is exactly how it was and as the drone captured it!

We often joke that we’ve manifested “having no plan” a bit too well when things don’t go as we wanted. Nights like this, however, prove that being the industry guinea pigs is worth it. We don’t always know where the road will lead tomorrow, but out here at Mystery Bay, Henslowe was absolutely right. Somehow, it all turns out beautifully well in the end. Even when we don’t expect it. How? Well that is the mystery.

Sending so much love to all our family and friends—we’ll let you know where the mystery takes us next!

Jo and Peter
