It’s the number one question we get from friends, family, and practically everyone we chat with along the road: “So, where are you guys heading next?”

The short answer? Wherever we want!

But since a few of you have asked for a slightly more detailed itinerary than “wherever we want” we thought explain our plan to show you how we’re navigating this big, beautiful backyard of ours.

Our “Home Bases”

While we love the total freedom of off-grid living, our wandering lifestyle actually revolves around three primary anchors where we regularly circle back to visit relatives and stay connected with family:

  • Point Cook, Victoria (well, around the area, since we don’t have an actual house there!) to stay connected to Harley Basil
  • Huskisson, New South Wales to stay connected to Peter’s Dad
  • Terranora, New South Wales to stay connected to Jo’s parents, sisters, aunt & nieces and
  • Brisbane to stay connected to Peter’s boys and keep an eye on our investment home in Toowoomba

The Great Victorian Mission

Right now, we are focusing heavily on hovering between Huskisson and Point Cook. Why? Because during our working careers, we spent a massive amount of time traveling and seeing New South Wales, but we realized we have never really seen a lot of Victoria! If we are being completely honest, neither of us has a strong sense of the state, the layout, or what the towns are even named.

As you can see from our blog posts, our initial strategy of “having no plan” led to plenty of chaos. Now we are trying to keep open to new mapping out our next few moves because sometimes you just want a bit of a list so you know what’s happening tomorrow and the next day!

Keeping it Isolated: Our Camping Philosophy

Don’t expect to see our Kokoda Defender Caravan Xcore packed tightly into crowded, suburban caravan parks. Unless we have a highly specific, utilitarian reason—like a morning appointment nearby or needing a powered site to sort out a technical glitch—we are actively avoiding suburbia.

Instead, we are chasing rural properties, Housesits and Hipcamps, and secluded sites that give us nothing but us and nature. If you have never heard of these things you can learn more from the links below. We love spots where we feel secure enough to leave our chairs, tables, and bikes set up outside without a worry, and where we can leave our windows wide open without wondering who is peering into the van.

In each location we are mapping our trail around quirky local history, follow-the-pointing “brown signs,” local botanic gardens, art trails, and bike tracks. We’re also scheming a few specific catch-ups—like perhaps joining our friends our destination is wherever the road takes us next.

See you out on the tracks!
